A big crowd watched the Rats headline the Reepham Festival in Norfolk on Saturday, 14th of August. Rats fans arrived from around the country and even flew in from New Zealand to be there.
The Rats themselves clocked up the miles as Simon Crowe flew in from the West Country, Peter flew in from Brussels via Amsterdam, and Garry Roberts & Darren drove from the Midlands.
Thousands of people descended upon the tiny picturesque village of Reepham determined to have a good time. Local bands provided the support on a hot and sunny day.
We can confirm that Boomtown Rats guitarist Garry Roberts has played on some of the songs recorded for Bob Geldof's new solo album due to be released on the 4th of October 2010. We can't yet confirm which songs Garry played on as a large number of songs were recorded in total and not all made it onto the final track-listing. Garry recorded his parts during early 2010 in the studio belonging to Queen drummer Roger Taylor.
The 14 track album is titled 'How To Compose Popular Songs That Will Sell' - the title of an old book Bob found in a second-hand bookshop.
Jay Bennett's posthumous album 'Kicking at the Perfumed Air' has been released. The former Wilco guitarist died in 2009.
Jay was a Boomtown Rats fan and the title of the album is from a line in the Boomtown Rats hit Diamond Smiles. Jay's cover version of the song is on the album.
The album is available to download free, with a suggested donation to the Jay Bennett Foundation.
