Boomtown Rats album art is the best at iconic album covers exhibition

A collection of John Berg designed album covers is on view at the Guild Hall, Main Street, East Hampton, New York.

The collection on display are just a fraction of the over 5,000 covers he designed, many of them are albums that became culturally significant.

Berg has won four Grammys for Best Cover of the Year and was nominated for 25 others.

Asked what his favourite record cover he designed was, he said the answer has been evolving. But after putting together the exhibit for Guild Hall, he's decided on the The Boomtown Rats' 1982 12" EP Charmed Lives.

The record cover has the band's name written in giant block lettering. Berg said he originally designed it for Miles Davis. "He hated it, I loved it," he recalled.

Kenny Everett Video Show

A very rare clip has come to light of the Boomtown Rats on a 1980's comedy TV show called the 'Kenny Everett Video Show'. The Rats played 'Keep it Up' a track from the Fine Art of Surfacing album.

The song wasn't actually released as a single - it was just a fun song that suited the show. During the video, the Rats lark about in 1950's clothes and zombie make-up... for no particular reason... Also watch out for the gigantic guitar.
