Gerry's trademark dark sunglasses earmarked him as the Rats Mr Supercool! Gerry is a highly acclaimed musician and his talents can be best uncovered with his influences in the Tonic For The Troop's and, Fine Art Of Surfacing albums. A poll of the world's greatest guitarists once put Gerry at the top. Gerry left the band due to musical differences. Gerry handed in his resignation from the band to Fachna O'Kelly on the morning of the final date of their world tour for "Mondo Bongo". Gerry had wanted the band to keep a guitar driven sound rather than constantly chop and change styles. After his departure from The Boomtown Rats on June 20th 1981, Gerry released some solo material on Epic, and Polydor Records including the singles 'The Ballad of The Lone Ranger', 'Some People I Know', 'Alphabet Town', and 'Pioneers'. Gerry also did a 5 track EP in 1984 called 'I Left My Hat In Haiti'. Bob Geldof commented that he liked Gerry's solo music. After leaving the Rats Gerry founded a successful company with his wife. Gerry is reported to be working on an album of 18th Century Irish Baroque Music that he describes as "18th Century Irish Art Music crashes head on into the 21st century". We're still waiting Gerry! Meanwhile Gerry can been seen playing music on his youtube page.
